Mandala Inspiration

I recently tried my hand at painting mandalas with watercolors. It was a lot harder than I expected!

The Inspiration

A couple of years ago, during a visit to the epic Cambodian temples of Angkor Wat, I had the fortune of meeting Hay Chhoem, a talented local artist.

I met Hay at the Small Art School in Siem Reap, the place he first began his art studies. This little school, founded and run by Japanese artist Tomoko Kasahara, provides free art education to underprivileged Cambodian children, a dream that has also passed on to Hay who now teaches at the school.

Hay painted this beautiful, awe inspiring watercolour on commission for me, now far from home, hung on the walls of my tiny studio in Switzerland, and a daily reminder of my special time in Siem Reap.
